Titre de séjour
ANEF & OFII: the titre validation timeline
Non-EU students usually validate their long-stay visa (VLS-TS) online through ANEF within a strict post-arrival window. This timeline companion sits next to our full titre validation guide.
The validation window
For most student VLS-TS holders, validation must be done online on the ANEF portal within three months of arrival. Missing it risks your right to stay. Use the roadmap tool to see a live deadline from your arrival date.
Step timeline
- Before / on arrival — keep passport, visa, and proof of address materials ready; get a French phone number for SMS codes.
- Week 1–2 — open a bank account (RIB often needed for related admin) and create/access FranceConnect / ANEF login path.
- ANEF validation — complete the online validation, pay the tax/fee when prompted, download confirmations.
- OFII-related steps — depending on your cohort and year, medical visits or residual OFII processes may still appear; follow what ANEF/your confirmation actually requests.
- After validation — keep PDFs; your validated status supports later steps (housing, CAF, renewals).
What to prepare
- Passport + visa / VLS-TS details
- Arrival date you will use consistently
- French mobile number
- Proof of address / hosting as required by the form
- Payment method that works in France
City notes (Paris, Lyon, Toulouse) explain local housing pressure — the validation itself is largely national via ANEF now.
Wrong order blocks everything else
Bank → phone → Ameli → titre → CAF is a dependency chain. Answer three questions and get your sequence.

Is OFII still required for all students?
Processes have shifted toward ANEF online validation. Follow the instructions shown for your file; do not assume an old OFII checklist still applies unchanged.
When does the three-month clock start?
From your arrival in France for the VLS-TS validation window in typical student cases — confirm on official guidance for your visa type.
Can I validate before I have a bank account?
Validation is primarily an ANEF process, but a French phone and organised documents help; a RIB unlocks many parallel steps the same month.
What if I am already late?
Act on ANEF immediately and seek official guidance — do not wait for perfect documents if the window has closed or is closing.
